The Trump administration accuses members of the Palestine Liberation Organization and officials of the Palestinian Authority of undermining peace efforts. It comes as more Western governments are openly criticising Israel — calling on it to end the war on Gaza and move towards a two-state solution — and as more countries announce their intention to recognise Palestinian statehood. Among the discussions is growing support for Hamas to disarm and for a reformed Palestinian Authority to govern Gaza. So what’s behind the US sanctions? Are they a bargaining chip to further peace talks? Or a sign of more hurdles ahead?
